Topicals

Balms, rubs, inhalers, repellents, gels and creams in one range

Topical products are household staples: a rub for a blocked nose, a balm for a headache, a spray for sore muscles, a gel for dry skin. They are bought repeatedly and on trust, and they sell through pharmacies, general stores and online. The base decides the format: a balm or rub base for jars, a liquid oil blend for roll-ons and sprays, a wick charged with volatile oils for inhalers, and a cream or gel base for tubes.

How it works

From oil blend to filled roll-on, jar or tube

The format you pick drives the base, the filling method and the pack.

  1. 01Formula: oils, strength and base

Choose the product and its strength, for example a strong or regular balm, an adult or baby rub. The oil blend is set for a cooling, warming or soothing effect, and the base is matched to the format: balm, ointment, cream, gel, liquid or inhaler wick.

  2. 02Samples: aroma, feel and spread

Samples are judged on aroma strength, on how the balm or gel spreads and absorbs, and on how a roll-on or spray delivers; baby versions are checked for a milder scent.

  3. 03Packaging: jar, roll-on, spray, tube or inhaler

Fill sizes run from a 0.5 ml inhaler to a 150 ml gel tube. Roll-ons can sit on a blister card or in a mono carton; jars and tubes take a carton and leaflet.

  4. 04Production: filling and sealing

Balms and rubs are poured into jars, liquids filled into roll-on and spray bottles, creams and gels into tubes, and inhaler wicks charged with oil, each batch with in-process checks and a batch record.

  5. 05Dispatch: cartons and shippers

Finished packs are cartonised and shipped to your warehouse or port, labelled and documented for the destination.

Quality and compliance

Licensed facilities, market-matched classification

Depending on the product and the country, a topical can be classed as an Ayurvedic or herbal product, a cosmetic or a general-use product. Classification, claims and labelling are matched to the market you sell in before the pack is finalised.

FAQs

Topical products: buyer questions

1. Which topical products can be manufactured under my brand?

Vaporizing and baby rubs, balms, pain relief roll-ons, sprays and ointments, nasal inhalers, mosquito repellents, anti-rash and antiseptic creams, and aloe vera, arnica and mouth-ulcer gels, all available as third-party or private-label products.

2. Can I get my own formula or fragrance?

Yes. An existing formula can serve as the base and be adjusted in fragrance and strength, or a new one can be developed from your brief. You approve samples before production.

3. Which fill sizes do rubs, roll-ons and gels come in?

Rubs from 5 ml to 50 ml, balms of 10 ml, roll-ons of 8 to 10 ml, sprays of 100 ml, ointments and creams of 20 to 25 g, inhalers of 0.5 ml and gels of 150 ml. Other sizes can be discussed.

4. Can you make a baby or child-friendly version?

Yes. The range already has separate baby formulations for rubs and mosquito repellents, using milder oils. Label statements for children depend on the rules of your target market.

5. Roll-on, spray or ointment: which pain-relief format should I launch?

All three use a wintergreen, menthol, camphor and eucalyptus base. A 10 ml roll-on is pocket-friendly and mess-free, a 100 ml spray covers larger areas such as the back, and a 25 g ointment suits massage. You can launch one format or all three under one name.

6. How is a topical product classified?

Depending on the formula and the country, as an Ayurvedic or herbal product, a cosmetic or a general-use product. Classification is settled before artwork, because it decides the claims and the licence shown on the label.
