Mechanism of Action

Paclitaxel works by binding to the beta-tubulin subunit of microtubules, promoting the assembly of tubulin into stable microtubules and inhibiting their depolymerization.

This hyper-stabilization disrupts the normal dynamic reorganization of the microtubule network that is essential for vital cellular functions, particularly mitosis. The resulting cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase leads to the death of rapidly proliferating cancer cells.

Unlike vinca alkaloids that prevent microtubule assembly, Paclitaxel stabilizes them. It is a highly potent and effective agent for treating various aggressive solid tumors.

Therapeutic Uses & Indications

Therapeutic Uses

Paclitaxel is prescribed for the treatment of:

  • Ovarian Cancer: Used as first-line and subsequent therapy for advanced carcinoma of the ovary.
  • Breast Cancer: Administered for the adjuvant treatment of node-positive breast cancer and for metastatic disease.
  • Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC): Used in combination with cisplatin for patients who are not candidates for potentially curative surgery or radiation therapy.
  • Kaposi's Sarcoma: Second-line treatment for AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma.

Why Manufacturers Choose Paclitaxel

Paclitaxel is one of the most widely used and effective chemotherapeutic drugs in the world. Its broad spectrum of activity against major cancers ensures massive clinical utility and sustained global demand.

This makes Paclitaxel one of the most sought-after molecules for third party manufacturing in India, with consistent demand from oncology-focused PCD franchise operators and export-oriented companies.
