Product Overview
METPROCARD XL 50 is a prolonged-release, cardioselective beta-blocker engineered for 24-hour management of hypertension, angina pectoris, and chronic heart failure. Its extended-release pellet matrix ensures flat plasma concentrations and steady cardiac protection.
Indications
This medication is primarily indicated for:
- Hypertension: Effective management of high blood pressure to lower cardiovascular event risks.
- Angina Pectoris: Long-term prophylaxis of chest pain caused by myocardial ischemia.
- Stable Chronic Heart Failure: Enhancing survival and decreasing hospitalization rates when added to standard regimens.
Dosage & Administration
The standard initial dose is one prolonged-release tablet once daily, swallowed whole with or without food. Do not crush or chew the tablet as it breaks the extended-release mechanism.

Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with severe bradycardia, second- or third-degree AV block, cardiogenic shock, decompensated heart failure, or severe peripheral arterial disease.
Warnings & Precautions
Abrupt cessation must be avoided, as it can precipitate thyroid storm, myocardial infarction, or severe arrhythmias. Close dose monitoring is recommended in patients with asthma or diabetes mellitus.
Drug Interactions
Calcium channel blockers like diltiazem and verapamil may enhance bradycardia effects. Concomitant use with CYP2D6 inhibitors can elevate metoprolol plasma concentration levels.
