Product Overview

UD CIAN 300 is an advanced sustained-release formulation of Ursodeoxycholic Acid (UDCA), a naturally occurring hydrophilic bile acid. It is clinically indicated for the dissolution of non-calcified cholesterol gallstones and the management of chronic cholestatic liver disorders. The sustained-release delivery maintains uniform plasma drug levels for continuous hepatoprotection.

Indications

UD CIAN 300 is indicated for:

  • Cholelithiasis: Dissolution of small, radiolucent, non-calcified cholesterol gallstones.
  • Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC): Slows progression and improves liver enzyme levels in chronic cholestatic liver disease.
  • Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD): Used as an adjuvant therapy to improve liver function test parameters.

Dosage & Administration

The standard adult dosage ranges from 10 to 15 mg/kg/day, typically administered as one 300mg sustained-release tablet once or twice daily with food, or as prescribed by a gastroenterologist. Tablets must be swallowed whole without crushing or chewing.

Adverse Effects

Common adverse effects include:

  • Pastified stools or mild diarrhea
  • Nausea or dyspepsia
  • Localized abdominal pain

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with acute gallbladder inflammation, occlusion of the biliary tract, calcified gallstones, frequent biliary colic, or hypersensitivity to bile acids.

Warnings & Precautions

Liver function tests (ALT, AST, alkaline phosphatase) must be monitored monthly for the first three months of therapy and every three months thereafter. Safe use during pregnancy and lactation requires strict medical evaluation.

Drug Interactions

Bile acid-binding agents like cholestyramine, colestipol, or aluminum hydroxide-based antacids inhibit the absorption of Ursodeoxycholic Acid. Estrogen hormones and blood cholesterol-lowering agents like clofibrate increase biliary cholesterol, countering the drug's therapeutic effect.

Storage Instructions

Store below 25°C in a dry place. Protect from light and keep out of reach of children.
