Product Overview
CELDEF TAB contains Deflazacort, a highly effective systemic corticosteroid with excellent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive actions. It offers a favorable safety profile with reduced impact on bone density and carbohydrate metabolism compared to conventional steroids.
Indications
This clinical medication is indicated for:
- Severe Inflammatory Disorders: Acute flare-ups of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and juvenile chronic arthritis.
- Allergic Conditions: Severe asthma, chronic rhinitis, and hypersensitivity dermatoses unresponsive to non-steroidal alternatives.
- Autoimmune Disease Management: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and pemphigus.
- Neuromuscular Dystrophies: Management of Duchenne muscular dystrophy to maintain ambulation.
Dosage & Administration
Dosage must be strictly individualized based on disease severity and patient response. The initial adult dosage typically ranges from 6 mg to 90 mg per day. Do not discontinue this medication abruptly; a gradual tapering schedule must be managed by the clinician.
Adverse Effects
Common systemic effects include transient gastrointestinal irritation, increased appetite, mild weight gain, Cushingoid features, susceptibility to superficial infections, and behavioral changes.

Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with systemic fungal infections, active tuberculosis, herpes simplex keratitis, or those receiving live virus vaccines. Hypersensitivity to Deflazacort restricts its use.
Warnings & Precautions
Long-term use requires monitoring for adrenal suppression, osteoporosis, ocular pressure elevations, and glucose intolerance. Exercise extreme caution in patients with hypertension, congestive heart failure, or peptic ulcer disease.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use with NSAIDs increases the risk of peptic ulceration and gastrointestinal bleeding. Enzyme-inducing drugs like rifampicin and phenytoin may reduce deflazacort plasma levels, requiring dosage adjustments.

Store below 30°C in a dry place. Protect from direct heat and light. Keep the blister pack intact until administration.
