Product Overview

LOSE SYP is an osmotic laxative solution indicated for the effective treatment of chronic constipation and the prevention of hepatic encephalopathy. It works naturally within the colon to restore proper bowel regularity without causing habit formation.

Indications

This osmotic liquid is clinically utilized for:

  • Chronic Constipation: Restores physiological bowel habits in patients requiring gentle laxation.
  • Portal Systemic Encephalopathy: Aids in the prevention and management of hepatic pre-coma and coma by eliminating neurotoxic ammonia.

Dosage & Administration

For Constipation: Starting dose is 15 ml to 30 ml daily, adjusted based on response. For Hepatic Encephalopathy: 30 ml to 45 ml three to four times daily, titrated to achieve 2 to 3 soft stools per day. Can be administered diluted with water or juice.

Adverse Effects

Initial adjustments may cause minor transient events including:

  • Flatulence, abdominal cramps, or bloating
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea and electrolyte imbalances (if excessively overdosed)

Contraindications

Contraindicated in individuals requiring a low-galactose diet (galactosemia), patients with acute gastrointestinal obstruction, bowel perforation, or known hypersensitivity to lactulose.

Warnings & Precautions

Contains small amounts of free galactose and lactose; use with extreme vigilance in patients with diabetes mellitus. Prolonged, unmonitored usage in elderly or debilitated individuals may lead to fluid loss and electrolyte depletion.

Drug Interactions

Concomitant use of broad-spectrum antibiotics may reduce the effectiveness of lactulose by eliminating the colonic bacteria required for its activation. Do not use antacids concurrently, as elevated pH can compromise the ammonia-trapping mechanism.

Storage Instructions

Store below 25°C. Do not freeze, as low temperatures can cause extreme crystallization of the sugar solution. Discoloration over time is normal and does not alter therapeutic action.
