CELITHRO 250 contains Azithromycin, a broad-spectrum macrolide antibiotic highly effective against a diverse array of Gram-positive, Gram-negative, and atypical pathogens. It features an extended tissue half-life, allowing for short, patient-compliant dosing courses.
Indications
This potent antibiotic is indicated for the treatment of:
- Upper Respiratory Tract Infections: Acute bacterial sinusitis, tonsillitis, and streptococcal pharyngitis.
- Lower Respiratory Tract Infections: Community-acquired pneumonia and acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis.
- Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: Uncomplicated skin infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes.
- Genitourinary Infections: Non-gonococcal urethritis and cervicitis caused by Chlamydia trachomatis.
Dosage & Administration
The standard adult dosage is 500 mg (two 250 mg tablets) as a single dose on Day 1, followed by 250 mg once daily on Days 2 through 5. Can be taken with or without food, though taking with food can minimize gastrointestinal intolerance.
Adverse Effects
Common side effects include gastrointestinal symptoms such as loose stools, nausea, abdominal cramps, and vomiting. Transient elevations in liver enzymes or mild dizziness may occur occasionally.

Contraindications
Contraindicated in individuals with a history of cholestatic jaundice or hepatic dysfunction associated with prior macrolide use, and in patients with known hypersensitivity to azithromycin or erythromycin.
Warnings & Precautions
Use with absolute caution in patients prone to QT interval prolongation or those with severe cardiac arrhythmias. Monitor liver function parameters closely if administering to patients with pre-existing hepatic impairment.
Drug Interactions
Avoid co-administration with aluminum or magnesium-based antacids, as they reduce peak serum levels of Azithromycin. May elevate plasma levels of digoxin, cyclosporine, and coumarin anticoagulants like warfarin.
