CELIXIME 200 TAB contains Cefixime, an advanced third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic offering superior beta-lactamase stability and potent bactericidal action. It is highly effective in treating systemic and localized bacterial infections of the respiratory, urinary, and biliary tracts.
Indications
This broad-spectrum cephalosporin is indicated for:
- Urinary Tract Infections: Uncomplicated cystitis and urethritis caused by Escherichia coli or Proteus mirabilis.
- Respiratory Tract Conditions: Acute bronchitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and community-acquired bacterial exacerbations.
- Otitis Media: Middle ear infections caused by beta-lactamase producing Haemophilus influenzae or Moraxella catarrhalis.
- Typhoid Fever: Uncomplicated enteric fever in adults and pediatric patients when first-line therapies fail.
Dosage & Administration
The standard adult dose is 200 mg to 400 mg daily, administered either as a single dose or split into two divided doses every 12 hours. The duration of therapy should be maintained for 7 to 14 days depending on the severity of infection.
Adverse Effects
Gastrointestinal symptoms like diarrhea, loose stools, abdominal pain, nausea, and flatulence are the most commonly reported side effects. Rare cases of mild hypersensitivity rashes may occur.

Contraindications
Strictly contraindicated in individuals with a known history of severe hypersensitivity reactions to Cefixime, other cephalosporins, or penicillin derivatives (cross-sensitivity).
Warnings & Precautions
Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, leading to Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD). Modify dosage appropriately in patients presenting with severe renal clearance impairment.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use with anticoagulants like Warfarin may prolong prothrombin time. Elevated plasma levels of carbamazepine have been observed when administered alongside Cefixime.
Storage Instructions
Store below 25°C in a dry environment. Keep the moisture-barrier blister packs intact until the time of ingestion.
