Indications
This medication is primarily indicated for:
- Hypertension Management: Treatment of mild to severe essential hypertension.
- Gestational Hypertension: Safe and reliable blood pressure control during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy.
- Hypertension with Angina: Managing elevated blood pressure co-existing with stable angina pectoris.
Dosage & Administration
The initial adult dosage is typically 100 mg taken twice daily, preferably with food. The dosage may be titrated by a medical professional at weekly or bi-weekly intervals based on the patient's blood pressure response.

Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with bronchial asthma or a history of chronic obstructive airway disease, second or third-degree heart block, severe sinus bradycardia, cardiogenic shock, or uncompensated heart failure.
Warnings & Precautions
Labetalol can mask the tachycardia associated with hypoglycemia in diabetic patients. Do not stop taking this medication abruptly, as sudden withdrawal can trigger severe rebound hypertension or provoke angina pectoris.
Drug Interactions
Additive hypotensive effects occur when used concurrently with other antihypertensives or diuretics. Calcium channel blockers like verapamil and diltiazem may increase the risk of bradycardia and conduction blocks.
