Product Overview
F CIAN TAB provides high-dose Folic Acid (Vitamin B9), an indispensable nutrient required for nucleic acid synthesis and cellular replication. It is highly utilized in the management of megaloblastic anemias and the prevention of fetal congenital anomalies.
Indications
This medication is primarily indicated for:
- Megaloblastic Anemia: Treatment of macrocytic anemias arising from folate deficiency.
- Antenatal Prophylaxis: Indicated during pre-conception and early pregnancy to prevent neural tube defects (NTDs).
- Drug-Induced Deficiency: Prevention of folate depletion caused by antifolate therapies like methotrexate.
Dosage & Administration
For therapeutic use in adults: 5 mg daily, or as advised by the clinician. For pregnancy prophylaxis: 5 mg daily started before conception and continued throughout the first trimester.
Adverse Effects
Extremely low toxicity. Rare hypersensitivity symptoms include skin flushing, pruritus, erythema, or mild gastrointestinal distress.

Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with unexplained or untreated pernicious anemia, as folic acid corrects hematological signs while allowing neurological degeneration to progress.
Warnings & Precautions
Ensure a definitive clinical diagnosis of the anemia type before initiating long-term therapy to prevent masking vitamin B12 deficiency status.
Drug Interactions
Concurrent use can decrease plasma levels of anticonvulsants (phenytoin, fosphenytoin). Antifolate agents like trimethoprim or methotrexate interfere with its enzymatic conversion.
